The Venice International Film Festival is 85 years old: it was the first International Art Exhibition and was held in August 1932 on the terrace of Hotel Excelsior at the Lido of Venice. After five years the Palace of Cinema was inaugurated, which was the venue where the event is still taking place. With the passing of years it became an event of international importance and hosted not only great known directors but also many emerging ones who would be the absolute protagonists of the cinema world in the decades to come: Akira kurosawa, Federico Fellini and Michelangelo Antonioni. An all-round movie festival ranging from the hollywood world to reveal less-explored realities such as Lebanese or Turkish or Korean cinema.
The main prize is the Golden Lion, an acknowledgment whose name derives from the traditional symbol of the city; The award is currently considered to be among the most widely acclaimed film awards at the international level, along with the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival and the Golden Bear of Berlin.
This year the show starts on August 30 and ends September 9, 2017.
